Hundreds showed up to demand justice for George Floyd and joined in the fight for racial justice on Thursday, May 28 from 4-5 pm in St. Peter in Minnesota Square Park on both sides of Hwy 169.
Indivisible SPGM is horrified by the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers on Monday, May 25. We joined together in a vigil as we publicly declared George Floyd’s life matters; black lives matter; and the officers who murdered George Floyd and the Minneapolis Police Department must be held accountable.
We continue to stand with Black Lives Matter and other voices calling for greater accountability on the part of the Minneapolis Police Department. As part of the larger Minnesota community, we know the murder of George Floyd is not an isolated case but yet another example of a system all too willing to use violence on black and brown bodies. Accountability must go beyond the punishment of individuals and entail reform of the entire system.
We stand in solidarity with the protesters in Minneapolis to work for social and racial justice right here in our community. We call upon the law enforcement agencies of Blue Earth and Nicollet counties to be proactive, to work with our communities, and to establish space for dialog and build trust especially with black and brown communities.
Finally, we commit to the work of educating ourselves and our communities. We commit to cultivating the will and the courage to act.
