Hundreds Turn Out For Reproductive Rights Rally In St. Peter

5/6/2022

About 200 people lined Highway 169 for a Reproductive Rights rally in St. Peter Thursday night.

Young, old, men, women, and even children turned out at Minnesota Square Park for the event, which came in response to a leaked draft of a Supreme Court opinion that indicates the court’s intent to overturn Roe vs. Wade, the landmark decision that made abortion legal nationwide in 1973.

Margarita Ruiz planned the rally in just two days with co-organizer Emily Falk. “I was hoping it was a joke,” Ruiz said of her reaction to reading the draft opinion.

Rally for Reproductive Rights

5/5/2022

Fantastic turnout - about 200 people of all genders and generations showed up the Rally for Reproductive Rights to share the anger, their stories, and their commitment to get involved. A huge shout out to our young organizers, Margarita Ruiz, Emily Falk, and Students for Reproductive Freedom at Gustavus, who pulled this together in record time. Great job.  Much more work to protect reproductive rights!

Stand Up for Peace

3/30/2022

Minnesota State Mankato's International Student Association held a rally for peace on campus, starting on the Mall near the fountain.

While the war on Ukraine is the driving force behind this call for peace, MSU International Students want to remind everyone war and conflict impact people all over the globe, and war and violence force people from their homes.

Students and  Indivisible came together to stand against war and violence wherever it is and that we come together to call for peace.

March Against Antisemitism and White Supremacy

4/18/2021

For the past few weeks, as the Minnesotans and the country have been watching the trial of Derek Chauvin and reliving the trauma of the killing of George Floyd and after the mass shooting of Asian-Americans in Atlanta, neo-Nazi stickers promoting antisemitism and anti-Black sentiments appeared in multiple locations in Mankato and St. Peter. Then, on Sunday, April 11th, Daunte Wright, another unarmed Black man, was shot and killed in Brooklyn Center. The targeting of marginalized people on the basis of race, religion, gender, etc. has a long history in the US. We must fight for a better future against the hate, violence, and discrimination of white supremacy.

On Sunday, April 18th, community members, groups, and organizations will be gathering to stand up against hate in all its forms but especially antisemitism and anti-Black racism. We stand together in solidarity to condemn these acts. We stand together to state that we will not tolerate or ignore hate in our communities. We stand together to demand justice, healing, and dignity for all who continue to suffer at the hands of white supremacy.
The event was hosted by Indivisible St. Peter/Greater Mankato and  co-sponsored by ISAIAH Mankato Area Chapter, Greater Mankato Diversity Council, ACLU Minnesota, Unidos Minnesota, YWCA Mankato, Mahkato Revitalization Project, Minnesota State University, Mankato African American Affairs, Minnesota State University, Mankato Diversity and Inclusion; Gustavus Adolphus College Multifaith Leadership Council, Gustavus Students for Reproductive Freedom, Gustavus Radicals, Gustavus Pan-African Students’ Association, Gustavus Muslim Students’ Association, IGNITE at Gustavus Adolphus College.

The weather was 27 degrees but felt like 19 degrees, yet here we all are again with our incredible speakers from the Red Lake Treaty Camp. This is what love looks like. Water is a human right and money corrupts our human rights, so our leaders, no matter who they are, must constantly be checked and pushed . Indivisible

Saint Peter/Greater Mankato works as soul force, in solidarity with the rest of our family. Thanks for showing up and out again today. Call your reps.
